Behavioral Interview: the STAR Method

Как структурно отвечать на «Tell me about a time…»: рассказ в прошедших временах, слова-связки, сильные глаголы.

STAR и времена рассказа

STAR = Situation, Task, Action, Result. Рассказывая историю, основное действие — Past Simple: *I noticed*, *I decided*, *I built*. Фон/то, что случилось ещё раньше — Past Perfect: *The team had missed two deadlines before I joined*. Результат с эффектом до сих пор можно дать в Present Perfect: *Since then, we have shipped on time*.

The team had missed two deadlines before I stepped in. — Команда сорвала два дедлайна до того, как я подключился. (фон, Past Perfect)

I introduced a code freeze on Fridays. — Я ввёл заморозку кода по пятницам. (действие, Past Simple)

Since then, we have shipped on time. — С тех пор мы выпускаем вовремя. (результат, Present Perfect)

💡 Действие → Past Simple. Что было ДО него → Past Perfect (had done). Результат к сейчас → Present Perfect.

Связки и сильные глаголы

Ведите слушателя словами-связками: First… Then… After that… As a result… In the end…. Используйте сильные глаголы действия: led, owned, initiated, resolved, streamlined, delivered. Избегайте слабого «I did / I made» — они звучат расплывчато.

First, I analysed the logs. Then I identified the bottleneck. — Сначала я разобрал логи. Потом нашёл узкое место.

As a result, response time dropped by 40%. — В итоге время ответа упало на 40%.

I led the effort to streamline the release process. — Я возглавил работу по упрощению релизов.

💡 Связки: First / Then / As a result / In the end. Сильные глаголы: led, owned, resolved, delivered.
